LTT-week-end in Kharkiv

On the 17-th of July 2009 at 17:00 the exhibition of photo and video installations by Anna Viola Hallberg and Annica Karlsson Rixon opened in Kharkiv city art gallery. The exhibition is called State of Mind and tells about lesbians lives in many cities of different countries of the world. Particularly in Kharkiv works concerning to life mostly in Saint-Petersburg (Russia) will be shown. It was possible to visit the exhibition till the 7-th of August 2009.

The installation was announced except our Organization also by Kharkiv City Authority and Kharkiv city art gallery . As a result the opening was visited by representatives of different media regional editions and tv-channels. However, as we found out later, not all of them made plots in the ether. As we were told by some reporters of a channel Kharkiv New because of the exhibitions subject their editors refused to edit this material, though reporters considered the subject was interesting.

These are several internet sites with articles on the exhibition:

Hearing different thoughts and reading different comments Its still an open question: so what was that coming from Sweden a work of art or Saint-Petersburg coming-out. To our mind that is the main collision of this event.

On the 18-th of July we had an informal meeting. We used a chance and came with Anna Viola and Annica to ethnic-art festival Pechenizjke Pole which was in Kharkiv region. It was very crowded, real storks and very loud.

On the 19-th of July 2009 at 12:00 we invited all our friends to the meeting at the format of Lezzie Think Tank. Such a format, as we were explained, in some way is similar to a round-table discussion and in some way is similar to a brain storm. The meetings subject was: How is it for homosexual and queer people to live in Kharkiv? Information received at this meeting will be used by Swedish artists for further creating of our citys description-portrait. We asked everyone, who wants to participate in the arrangement, to register by e-mail, sms or phone numbers.

So it happened in art-cafe Agatha. At Lezzie Think Tank we were discussing an issues of LGBT-organizations, the history of LGBT-movement in Ukraine appearing, collaboration with media, coming-out, children upbringing in the same-sex partnerships, social stereotypes concerning to lgbt- and queer-people. After this discussion we created a number of questions to the city which will be the next participant of the project.

After that there was video-materials shooting for further installations with ladies living in Kharkiv. Author format of them supposes that a hero/lady-hero of the camera answers questions concerning to a life of queer- and lgbt-people in our city. By a wish of a hero/lady-hero its possible to hide the face, not demonstrate the video in particular cities of our country, Union of Independent Countries or the world.

During the whole week-end we had a possibility to communicate with art figures - ladies-activists of LGBT-movement of Sweden Anna Viola Hallberg and Annica Karlsson Rixon. And on Monday July, 20 everybody interested was able to visit their workshop on photography art.

We think that these several days with Anna Viola Hallberg and Annica Karlsson Rixon were exclusive for ladies who live in Kharkiv and for us as a social organization who works for women, including lesbians and bisexual women. It was very important for us that it was a three-ways collaboration. From one side the exhibition was in the space of authority financing and its a step of development, because it means that the subject is visible for people of power. From other hand it was a chance for lgbt-community to mobilize, to meet a piece of art openly and frankly expressing thoughts, emotions, stories of real homosexual people living not that far from our city, in a neighbors Russia. Its a brave experience of a person to be out; to be ready to share this experience with another people facing the same problems. And from the third side the exhibition is an art-event. It means that its also for people who form a big professional field. And as we all know the best way to make the impact in our stable, ossified society is to suggest people to stop for a minute and think. And there is no better way to do that than by means of visualized images and cinematography pieces that are both catching the attention and giving the deep mental understanding.

WA Sphere (Ukraine, Kharkiv) organized and carried out the flash-mob event dedicated to the International Women's Day 8-th of March.
Events description:
Concept:
We know how many believes exist: for what a Woman is capable of, what She wants and is able for. Since childhood we hear a lot of idioms concerning to it. This is described in school textbooks, beginning from alphabets. We are accustomed from the cradle to: You are a girl you must. This thing exists in all the TV-broadcasts and printed editions.

We are amazed of the limitations number that women are imposed in everything in private life, professional sphere, social life and even in family roles. We can not understand why people attitude to a woman is not human.
8-th of March the International Women's Day was proclaimed in 1977 by United Nations and interpreted as the Day of Womens Rights.

And we agree to be beautiful, kind, loving, tender and so on, but we strive for having human rights.

Goal:
show the disagreement with general stereotypes concerning to a Womans role in social processes.

Format:
People (man and women) come to the square with pans and frying pans, maybe in dressing gowns and pretend that they clean crockery in this way publically realizing assigned to women roles stereotype.

Place of carrying out: the square of Freedom (opposite the Regions Board)

The trip of our flag to Goverla

At the highest point of Ukraine the mountain Goverla /2061/ the flag of WA Sphere was raised up accompanied by wind and fog on September, 11. Before that there was one day passing from village Lazenshina, after passing along the highest Karpatian mountain ridge Chernogory with coming almost to the Romanian borders. The idea of rising up our rainbow-organizational flag at the highest point of Ukraine appeared accidently, but for many groups and organizations such a tradition is an original demonstration and announcement of themselves, their principals and requirements. Every day there are a lot of people raising to Goverla in order to put over Ukraine their own flag. For example, with us there was a group of Slovenians who brought there their national flag. There were not LGBT-representatives raising with me to the mountain top, but people who are tolerant to defence for gay and lesbian rights in Ukraine. That is why after the tour one idea appeared as a sign of tolerance to raise rainbow flags on the mountain tops of all the continents and at the end on the highest point of the world Everest. I guess this quest will be 12 years long. Scheduled start is July 2009, the highest point of Europe Elbrus. To all the brave people I suggest to join!:)
